My wife and I found Shital at the Pickle & Spice stall at the Boeremark (farmer’s market), Silverton, Pretoria.
Shital has a looovely range of curries, spices, and a delicious range of prepared Indian foods. Their smells are mouth watering so it’s hard to get away from her stall without adding something of hers to your shopping bag.
You can contact Shital on 074 311 3426.

This is the second in a series of two photographs that I took at Sheila’s’ Apple Tree Organic Farm stall at the Boeremark (farmer’s market), Silverton, Pretoria.
I like the fact that their chickens are really Free Range. Among other things, they are allowed to run around outdoors – and could even get rained on if they are not taken inside. They are also not given growth hormones and the plethora of antibiotics that are given to battery chickens.
Another nice feature when buying from Apple Tree Organic Farm stall is their printed newsletter they put with your purchase, as you can see in the photograph of Sheila in action. There are usually short, interesting articles about an experience/happening on their farm during the past week. Also recommendations to places they might have eaten out at, ways to save money, recipes, ideas for useful projects around the house and on the back page they have a price list of their produce. A really cool idea!
You Can contact Sheila on 073 257 5610 if you have any questions about their product range or to place an order with them.

This is the second in a series of two photographs that I took of Feroz at his spice and herb stand at the Boeremark (farmer’s market), Silverton, Pretoria.
I think herbs and spices ooze from every part of Feroz’ being. I found it quite fascinating listening to him chat to my wife about the many health benefits of eating various herbs and spices. My wife has a good understanding about this subject, but Feroz knew more.
Feroz is a very pleasant man to do business with and I recommend you get to the Boeremark (The Farmer’s Market) early on a Saturday morning and visit his stall.

This is the second in a series of two photographs that I took at “Die Braaipan” (The Frying Pan) stall on this occasion at the Boeremark (farmer’s market), Silverton, Pretoria.
Here is Esbe Strydom from Die Braaipan at the Boeremark, Silverton, Pretoria. She makes delicious “vetkoek” (I think you call them fat-cakes in English) while you wait. Vetkoek and mince seem to be the favorite for most people. Many take plain ones home where they then add their own stuffing.
Since my wife and I are vegetarians they offered us looovely vetkoek with cheese and jam filling. I don’t think that it is the healthiest food to eat, but it was oh so delicious. To place an order you can call Esbe on 076 854 3495.
