This is the first in a series of two photographs that I took at Sheila’s’ Apple Tree Organic Farm stall at the Boeremark (farmer’s market), Silverton, Pretoria.

I like the fact that their chickens are really Free Range. Among other things, they are allowed to run around outdoors – and could even get rained on if they are not taken inside. They are also not given growth hormones and the plethora of antibiotics that are given to battery chickens.

One of the nice feature when buying from Apple Tree Organic Farm stall is their printed newsletter they put with your purchase, as you can see in the photograph above. There are usually short, interesting articles about an experience/happening on their farm during the past week. Also recommendations to places they might have eaten out at, ways to save money, recipes, ideas for useful projects around the house and on the back page they have a price list of their produce. A really cool idea!

You Can contact Sheila on 073 257 5610 if you have any questions about their product range or to place an order with them.

This is the second in a series of two photographs that I took of Feroz at his spice and herb stand at the Boeremark (farmer’s market), Silverton, Pretoria.

I think herbs and spices ooze from every part of Feroz’ being. I found it quite fascinating listening to him chat to my wife about the many health benefits of eating various herbs and spices. My wife has a good understanding about this subject, but Feroz knew more.

Feroz is a very pleasant man to do business with and I recommend you get to the Boeremark (The Farmer’s Market) early on a Saturday morning and visit his stall.

It’s always a pleasant experience to greet Solomon, The Leather Man (a name coined by me, since he has no official business name). He is a friendly and enthusiastic man always in bright colours.

I watched him serving customers and noticed how he listens to their needs. If you want something he hasn’t got on his table, you can place an order and collect it in a weeks time; or for the more impatient shopper he is willing to make the product on the spot during his quiet moments.

I questioned him about his pure leather belts but was unfortunate since the smallest one in the colour and style that I liked was several inches to big for me. Solomon offered to make one for while I waited. However there were no loose buckles lying in his box which I liked. So, he promptly took up the ready made belt which I liked, cut out the buckle, shortened it to my required size, inserted the buckle, trimmed off any rough edges and upon my request also punched another two holes into it. This happened so quickly. I can’t tell you how long I waited. Was it 5 minutes? Was it 10 minutes? I honestly don’t think it was the latter.

I speak under correction when I say Marieline Kruger has been trading her Aloe Ferox products at the Boeremark (the Farmer’s Market) in Pretoria for about 20 years. One thing is for certain, she is there on Saturday mornings before 06:00 with tons of advice and guidance regarding the benefits of her great range of natural products. If you ask her she will keenly hand you a 4 page A5 flyer, listing her numerous products with brief descriptions of their application. These products cover a wide range of uses such as “Wellness”, “Wholesomeness”, “Skin Care” and other general uses such as “Bath Care”, Hair Care”, “Men’s Den”, “Pet Care” and much more.

As I stated previously, you can find Marieline at the Saturday morning Boeremark (the Farmer’s Market) in Pretoria Street, Silverton, Pretoria, or you can call her on 012 991 2679 or 083 421 2783.

Did you see my photograph of the conjunction of Venus, Jupiter and the moon on 2015-06-20 when these three heavenly bodies were close enough to each other for me to be able to capture them in a single image?

One Saturday in July, at the drop of a hat, my wife and I decided to take a drive out to a small town (not much more than a large village actually) called Cullinan in the Gauteng Province. This is the spot where the famous, largest gem quality diamond with a weight of 3106ct in the rough was found. However, we did not take the opportunity to go into the museum to look up the history of the town. We decided to rather scout the place to see what interesting things we might come across.

Needless to say, we did have a few interesting experiences. I will discuss each one as I upload the image/s that I captured that afternoon.

This captivating scene was in the veld, close to the railway line, not far from the old railway station, where there are a number of interesting antique shops and a realy cool restaurant and pub which have taken over the old station building.

My wife was wandering how long she would have to wait to get a lift in this oooold scrapped DKW! ;-)

I have posted another shot of this DKW, and other photographs, on my John Golden Photography website.

Previously I said that I will post a photograph I made of a near conjunction of Venus, Jupiter and the moon on 2015-06-20 where these three heavenly bodies were close enough to each other for me to be able to capture them in a single image. Watch out for this in the next few days.

My wife and I had a lovely experience when we happened upon the newly opened Bread Boutique in Pretorius Street in Pretoria CBD, directly opposite State Theater’s Scene Dock/Service Entrance.

As the name would suggest, the Bread Boutique is a small boutique buffet styled restaurant with a small menu. Since my wife and I are vegetarians we suspected the menu would be a problem for us but we were pleasantly surprised to find how willingly accommodating they were toward us and our needs.

What was even more impressive was their filter coffee and cappuccino… Of the best flavored coffees in Pretoria. Strong and rich in flavor and most importantly there was no nasty after taste, nor any taste of burned granules.

The positive and present vibe was lovely and they never rushed us nor any of their other customers. We had a choice of been seated in a conventional styled restaurant or to lounge in one of the nice new leather sofas at an attractive and unique round mosaic coffee table – which we naturally chose to do.

The photo above was taken in a corner of the restaurant of one of the waiters. I love how this picture clearly shows the typical pride and sparkle of the staff that work there.

The Bread Boutique, try it. I honestly don’t think they will disappoint you.
